Overview: How the GGSIPU Counseling Process Works

The GGSIPU admission process is conducted entirely online through the official admissions portal. It is divided into:

  • Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 — Main counseling rounds with seat allotment based on CET/NLT rank and filled choices
  • Sliding Round — An automatic upgrade round for candidates who selected “Float” in previous rounds
  • Spot Round — A final round to fill seats that remain vacant after physical reporting

Each round follows the same core cycle: Register → Fill Choices → Get Allotment → Pay Fee → Verify Documents → Submit Willingness (Freeze/Float).

Phase 1: Round 1 Counseling — Step by Step

Step 1: Registration & Counseling Fee Payment

Visit the official IPU admissions portal and complete your registration. Pay the non-refundable counseling participation fee to unlock the choice-filling module.

Step 2: Choice Filling

Log in using your CET or NLT score/rank and fill in your college and program preferences. You can add as many options as available.

💡 Pro Tip: Always arrange your choices from most preferred to least preferred. The system allots the best available seat based on your rank and priority order.

Step 3: Seat Allotment Result

GGSIPU declares the Round 1 seat allotment results on the portal. Check your allotment using your login credentials.

Step 4: Pay the Part Academic Fee (Mandatory)

If a seat is allotted, you must pay the Part Academic Fee within the deadline. This is non-negotiable — failure to pay results in automatic cancellation of the allotted seat and removal from the regular counseling process.

Step 5: Online Document Verification

After fee payment, upload your documents for online verification. Ensure all certificates are clear, valid, and match the details in your application form.

Step 6: Freeze or Float — Your Key Decision

After printing your allotment letter, you must declare your willingness:

  • 🔒 Freeze — You are satisfied with the allotted seat. You will not participate in further upgrades. Your admission is confirmed.
  • 🔄 Float — You accept the current seat but want the system to check for a better option (higher preference) in the next round. If no upgrade is available, your current seat is retained.

Phase 2: Round 2 Counseling

Step 1: Modify Your Choices

Round 2 allows you to add, edit, or delete your earlier preferences to improve your chances of getting a better college or branch.

Step 2: Round 2 Allotment & Fee Payment

Allotment results are published. Candidates who receive a seat allotment for the first time in Round 2 must pay the Part Academic Fee.

Step 3: Document Verification & Willingness

All newly allotted candidates undergo document verification and must again submit their Freeze or Float preference.

Phase 3: Round 3 & The Sliding Round

Round 3 — Final Modifications & Category Conversions

This is your last chance to modify choices. An important feature of Round 3 is the conversion of reserved category seats to General category if no eligible reserved candidates are available — opening more seats for the general merit list.

First-time allottees in Round 3 pay the Part Academic Fee and complete document verification.

The Sliding Round — Automatic Upgrade

If you were allotted a seat in Round 1, 2, or 3, paid the fee, and chose Float (not Freeze), you automatically enter the Sliding Round. The system checks your higher preferences and upgrades your seat if available — at no extra charge.

Physical Reporting (After Sliding Round)

This is a critical step. You must physically report to your finally allotted college to:

  • Get your original documents verified in person
  • Pay the Balance Academic Fee (remaining tuition after the Part Academic Fee)

⚠️ Missing physical reporting means your admission is cancelled, even if you paid all earlier fees.

Phase 4: Spot Round — For Vacant Seats

If seats remain unfilled after physical reporting, GGSIPU conducts an online Spot Round. This is open to all eligible candidates.

Step 1: Fresh Registration (Mandatory for All)

Every candidate — including those who participated in earlier rounds — must register fresh for the Spot Round. Previous registrations are not carried forward.

Step 2: Choice Filling & Allotment

Submit your fresh preferences. Spot Round allotment is declared based on rank and availability.

Step 3: Fee Payment

  • First-time allottees: Pay the Part Academic Fee
  • Candidates upgrading from a previous allotment: Pay the prescribed upgradation fee

Step 4: Document Verification & Final Reporting

Complete online document verification and report to the allotted college to finalize admission.

Pro Tips Before You Start the IPU Counseling Process

  • Keep a cancelled cheque ready — it may be required for fee refunds if you withdraw
  • Double-check category certificates (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) before document verification — mismatches cause rejections
  • Never miss a fee payment deadline — the system automatically cancels seats without manual warnings
  • Screenshot your allotment letter and payment receipts at every stage
  • Monitor the portal daily during active counseling rounds — schedules can shift
  • Choose Float if unsure — you can always keep your current seat if no upgrade is available

⚠️ Disclaimer: Admission rules, counseling schedules, fee structures, and seat matrices are subject to change every academic year. Always verify the latest instructions directly on the Official GGSIPU Website and the IPU Admissions Portal for the 2026–27 academic session.
